Sports Scholarship
Mentor Programme
All scholars are entitled to their own mentor throughout the year
of the scholarship. Mentors are volunteers who work with trust to
provide positive role models to the young scholars. All mentors
are fully trained and receive Criminal Record Bureaux checks.
What is a mentor?
A mentor is a volunteer who works for the trust. A mentor may
be a sports person, a student, teacher, or work in business and
will have experience of working with young people.
What does a mentor do?
A mentor is assigned to you who may have an interest in your sport
or other related experience. The mentor is a friendly, helpful person
who will meet with you every six weeks to chat, go for coffee, come
and watch you train or compete. They represent the West London Sports
Trust by giving you advice on how to spend your scholarship, they
can chat to you about your sport, about school, college, university,
and anything else you may want to chat to them about!!
If you chat to the mentor about something you are worried about
then they will treat it as confidential. If the mentor feels you
are at harm or in trouble then they may have to discuss this with
the trust manager but they will tell you before they do this.
What if my mentor and I do not get on?
If you have any problems or do not feel you get on with your mentor
then let the trust know and we can match you up with someone else.
We try our best to match you with someone we feel you would get
on with but we may not get it right every time!
All we ask of you:
When you meet with your mentor try to be on time, or let the trust
know if you may be late or cannot make the meeting. As the mentor
is a volunteer for the trust, please do not ask the mentor for any
personal details e.g. phone number, where they live etc as it may
be intrusive into their lives.
We hope that the mentor programme is helpful to you. We would love
to hear your opinions and suggestions about the programme so let
us know what is good and what is not so good!
